Bureau of Indian Affairs Water Resource Program
The Great Plains Region Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) through a yearly competitive grant process has provided funds to Lower Brule to complete a number water quality activities. The funding comes from the Water Management, Planning, and Pre-Development Program and the Water Rights Negotiation/Litigation Program. These projects are completed with the Cooperation of the U.S. Geological Services (USGS) and the LBST-EPO Water Quality Program. Recent projects have included:
- Streamflow Gaging
- Evaluation of Wetlands
The photo above is a stream gaging site on Counselor Creek that was damaged during the spring rains of 2011. The site was repaired that summer and is still in use.
